The Project

ERGOSAFELY worked with East Midlands Development Agency (emda) providing professional ergonomic workstation assessments from March 2008 to March 2009.

They provided a timely, thorough ergonomic assessment service including the provision of detailed written reports with recommendations for workstation improvements in response to user symptoms.

The Project

Design the checkouts and tradesman counter for B&Q Super stores.

The B&Q employees were complaining about lower back ache and sore feet whilst working in the checkouts.

I was the project Manager working with Dorene on this project.  We were already aware of her capabilities as an Ergonomist and her in-put in to the re-designing of check out counters for Boots and were interested in working with her on this design project for B&Q.

Dorene is a good communicator and understood immediately what the client required.

We felt very confident to allow her to work closely with the client on her own and she built up a very good working relationship with them and they in turn felt very confident about her proposals.

Dorene designed the checkouts and tradesman counter and we had a mock up built and full drawings for the final presentation which she put together and presented, explaining the benefits of the new design to Health & Safety, Engineering, Store Managers and Directors.  I am very happy to say they were delighted with the proposed designs and they are now in their Super Stores.

The Project

To look at the whole plant and identify problem areas for manufacturing and injury causation.

The Problem

Employees were complaining of pain in their hands, wrists, thumbs and backs.

I am the Manufacturing Director for Caliper here at Ebbw Vale.  I first met Dorene when I was the Manufacturing Director at Valeo where she resolved many manufacturing problem for us and as we were experiencing problems here, I ask her to come and have a look at us. 
She identified several areas that needed adjustments and has been working steadily through them, resolving the problems, reducing injuries and improving productivity. 

Every project has a budget and the costs of the improvements are made back in cost savings within a year and usually less.

 Dorene works closely with our Continuous Improvements, Engineers, Health & Safety and other staff and teaches each of them Ergonomics on a one to one basis as they work through the project.  She is a good communicator and team player.
